Everyday Italian: 125 Simple and Delicious Recipes ReviewI have been a big fan of the show since the beginning. This book is a blessing. For a long time I would have to hunt down the recopies on the food network website, print them, lose half of them, etc. This way I have it all in a beautiful glossy hard cover book, written with warmth, personal stories and mouth watering pictures of the dishes.
I have made many of the dishes she features in her book, and not one turned out badly. It all comes out exactly as it's supposed to. That's tricky with some cookbooks, when you just can't get it to be what it's meant to be. Giada's book is divided in these sections:
Antipasti, Sauces, Pasta Polenta and Risotto, Entrees, Contorini (Side Dishes) and Dolci (Desserts)

Some of my favorite recipes I've made are:
Stuffed mushrooms: thank goodness they are so simple to make, because I am being hounded by my boyfriend to make them. Simply amazing.
Simple Bolognese- meaty, fresh, and satisfying, plus you don't have to wonder what was in it. You made it and you know it's clean. Classic recipe that's easy to follow.
Brown Butter sauce - I can still close my eyes and taste the sage and butter, over any meat. Instant dress up to any meal.
Chicken piccata - light, lemony, olivey, simply fantastic.
I can just go on and on, but I don't want to bore anyone. This book is simply super. I don't mind the pictures of her, and if she changed her clothes for every single photo in the book, I would have mistaken it for a Vogue shoot, instead of a cookbook.
Hope you can enjoy it as much as I am. This book is in constant use at my house.Everyday Italian: 125 Simple and Delicious Recipes OverviewIn her hit Food Network show Everyday Italian, Giada De Laurentiis shows you how to cook delicious, beautiful food in a flash. And here, in her long-awaited first book, she does the same—helps you put a fabulous dinner on the table tonight, for friends or just for the kids, with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of flavor. She makes it all look easy, because it is. Everyday Italian is true to its title: the fresh, simple recipes are incredibly quick and accessible, and also utterly mouth-watering—perfect for everyday cooking. And the book is focused on the real-life considerations of what you actually have in your refrigerator and pantry (no mail-order ingredients here) and what you're in the mood for—whether a simply sauced pasta or a hearty family-friendly roast, these great recipes cover every contingency. So, for example, you'll find dishes that you can make solely from pantry ingredients, or those that transform lowly leftovers into exquisite entrées (including brilliant ideas for leftover pasta), and those that satisfy youryearning to have something sweet baking in the oven. There are 7 ways to make red sauce more interesting, 6 different preparations of the classic cutlet, 5 perfect pestos, 4 creative uses for prosciutto, 3 variations on basic polenta, 2 great steaks, and 1 sublime chocolate tiramisù—plus 100 other recipes that turn everyday ingredients into speedy but special dinners. What's more, Everyday Italian is organized according to what type of food you want tonight—whether a soul-warming stew for Sunday supper, a quick sauté for a weeknight, or a baked pasta for potluck. These categories will help you figure out what to cook in an instant, with such choices as fresh-from-the-pantry appetizers, sauceless pastas, everyday roasts, and stuffed vegetables—whatever you're in the mood for, you'll be able to find a simple, delicious recipe for it here. That's the beauty of Italian home cooking, and that's what Giada De Laurentiis offers here—the essential recipes to make a great Italian dinner. Tonight.

Ceramic Millennium ReviewSimply the most erudite collection of essays on the history of Ceramic Arts in the U.S. and current issues theoretically and philosophically. As an artist, knowledge is power, and this is the most powerful (and ONLY) collection of essays available.Ceramic Millennium OverviewOver the last two decades of the twentieth century, the Ceramic Arts Foundation (formerly the Institute for Ceramic History) presented International Ceramics Symposiums in New York, Toronto, London and Amsterdam, among other cities. In the course of that work, it fundamentally changed the approach of ceramics to the field's modern history, to scholarship, and to criticism. The first symposium was held in conjunction with the groundbreaking exhibition, A Century of Ceramics in the United States 1878-1978, in Syracuse, New York, and opened with a keynote address by Clement Greenberg. The most recent attracted 3,500 participants, 65 national delegations and involved an arts festival spanning 73 museums and galleries. Garth Clark, the CAF's founding director and a noted ceramics scholar, has selected these symposium essays from eminent voices in mainstream art and design as well as the finest specialty writers on ceramics, past and present.

The Book Lover's Cookbook: Recipes Inspired by Celebrated Works of Literature, and the Passages That Feature Them ReviewI would recommend "The Booklover's Cookbook" as a perfect present for a bookworm who happens to cook (but perhaps not for a cook who happens to read occasionally).
It features 170 recipes with excerpts from various books mentioning that specific food, as well as quotes from authors on writing and books. Some of it seems to be a stretch, but over all the authors did a great job compiling it into this lovely book.
It is very amusing, if anything just to flip through on a slow Saturday afternoon with your friends and reminisce about stories you all read once upon a time (you will definitely hear a lot of "Oh yeah, I remember that book! I read it years ago, when I was in elementary school/just after whats-his-name broke up with me/in college for that horrible lit class/etc, etc"...).
The authors feature a nice variety of different foods spanning eras and book genres - from Ichabod's Slapjacks (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow) to Mr. Casabon's Chicken Noodle Soup (Middlemarch) and Tamales (Like Water for Chocolate). Two recipes I was especially tickled by were the Turkish Delight (The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe) and Not Violet, but Blueberry Pie (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) - it brought me back to my frustration with Edmund's greediness and of course the excitement shared with Charlie.
"The Booklover's Cookbook" is indeed an endearing book, meant to be shared in order to be truly enjoyed. The Book Lover's Cookbook: Recipes Inspired by Celebrated Works of Literature, and the Passages That Feature Them Overview

Book of Secrets ReviewThis book is really tiny - less than 4 inches in length and a bit over hundred pages. It contains odds and ends of helpful tips, recipes, quotes, some factual information, some semi-accurate information and opinions on different topics.
For examples, in the section related to casinos, it says that "Casinos want you to lose touch with the outside world and your sense of time. There are no clocks in the casino" - which is true, but then it also says that "dealers do not wear watches", which is not true, at least not in North America.
Useful tip for people trying to lose weight may be that eating food rich in calcium may assist with weight loss, or to quote from this book:
"Eating yogurt will actually help you lose weight, as the high calcium content provides a catalyst for your body to burn fat more efficiently and will actually limit the amount of fat your body will support.
While the book doesn't reveal the secret ingredient in the Colonel's recipe that made Kentucky Fried Chicken a success, you will find a recipe for making breaded chicken.
Throughout the book you will come across variety of quotations - like "The Secret of Keeping the Secret"
"Three may keep a secret if two of them are dead." - Benjamin Franklin
Among the helpful tips you'll find tips for improving memory, remembering names, selling a house, dating, bargain hunting and assortment of culinary information.
Among the facts you'll find a variety of historical information about the Tower of London, Christian Catacombs, list of famous American Freemasons, and other odds and ends.Book of Secrets OverviewDid you know there's a secret daily flight from the United States to Cuba? Or, that in 1966, the U.S. government smashed a bacteria-laden light bulb inside the New York subway system? Thomas Eaton's Book of Secrets reveals hundreds of clandestine, covert, surreptitious, furtive, hush-hush, and taboo pop-cultural and historical curiosities, from government cover-ups to marketing tricks to Colonel Sander's secret recipe. Practical secrets are also revealed, such as how to obtain a flight upgrade, speak in public, or win friends and influence people. Production features include a Kivar cover with rounded corners and foil stamping.

Harry Potter the Exhibition: Official Exhibition Guide ReviewI bought this book from the WB online store. Even though I haven't had a chance to visit the exhibition (still hoping it will make a stop in Honolulu), I wanted to have the Guide because I like the HP films.
For those who have attended the exhibit, the Guide is a nice souvenir that will bring memories of the many beautifully crafted props and costumes that have been seen in the HP films and were shown at the exhibition. The Guide follows the different sections in the exhibit like the Gryffindor Common Room, Classes at Hogwarts, Quidditch, Hagrid's Hut, Dark Forces and the Great Hall. Color pictures of costumes, creatures, and artifact displays are interspersed with quotes from the designers and a few stills from the movies.
Forty pages make for a thin booklet so some people may find the Guide somewhat overpriced. But if you liked Harry Potter Film Wizardry, you may want to consider adding the Guide to your collection. Both books will look great next to each other on your shelves.

Exploring Beedle the Bard ReviewThis is the FIRST book of literary criticism about J. K. Rowling's "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" to be published. It offers discussion of each of the five tales, along with contextual material that helps in understanding them. The book suggests that "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" is uneven in quality. Two of the tales are excellent (The Fountain of Fair Fortune, The Tale of the Three Brothers); one is excellent though flawed by the bleakness of its vision (The Warlock's Hairy Heart); two are for different reasons weaker (Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump, The Wizard and the Hopping Pot). The notes supposedly by Dumbledore provide at times an interesting insight into J. K. Rowling's thinking, at times seem little better than padding. "Exploring Beedle the Bard" offers critical insight into the five tales which through the massive readership they have achieved are fast becoming part of our cultural heritage.Exploring Beedle the Bard OverviewInsightful, provocative analysis of J.K. Rowling's BEEDLE THE BARD by Potter expert Graeme Davis, author of THE UNAUTHORIZED HARRY POTTER QUIZ BOOK. Davis evaluates each tale from moral, easthetic, and fan perspectives. A must companion for anyone who buys BEEDLE THE BARD and enjoys Potter discussions.

The Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II: The World of Harry Potter (Harry Potter Movie T) ReviewThis book provides a pictorial overview of Harry's years at Hogwarts and his quest to destroy Voldemort. Set up topically (rather than chronologically) in yearbook fashion, there are chapters for Life At Hogwarts (student portraits, Hogwarts castle, staff, student life, through the years), The Wizarding World (Ministry of Magic, Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade, magical creatures), and Battling Dark Forces (Order of the Phoenix, Deatheaters, Epic moments). There are 2-6 pictures per page, plus a few two-page spreads. I would have liked to have seen more pictures from the last two movies, but it's a nice overview. The Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II: The World of Harry Potter (Harry Potter Movie T) OverviewRelive all the magical moments from the Harry Potter movies!
The Harry Potter movie saga is drawing to a close, but you can celebrate all the best moments from the movies in this beautiful keepsake. This paper-over-board book traces each character's growth from film to film. Over 100 pages of pictures in all!

Literature Guide: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Grades 4-8) ReviewI am a homeschooling mother who bought this, to use with the books while reading with my girls. I develop my own cirriculum for school, and I was so excited that someone had made these study guides, so I wouldnt have to. However, this book was extremely disappointing to say the least. It is only 13 pages long with only two pages dedicated to any 5-6 chapters. The 15 questions, which were deidcated to the 5-6 chapters were silly, and had no depth to them. There were no other usable parts to the book. There are only 3 reproducibles, but they are not worth the cost of the paper to print them. Being an avid Harry Potter lover, as are my girls, this was extremely disappointing. Don't waste your money on it. You would do better to make up your own questions about each chapter and find some free stuff online.Literature Guide: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Grades 4-8) OverviewIncludes a colorful teaching poster and engaging activities!A complete guide to teaching Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Jesus Potter Harry Christ ReviewAfter reading Murphy's book but before writing this review, I wanted to check out Holy Blasphemy Press. I accept atheism as a valid philosophy for anyone making an intelligent decision and I wrote about this in my own work, rejecting the old, dictator god that many of us grew up with and replacing that image with a kindler, gentler, forgiving energy that accepts and loves all. Writing about spirituality, though, makes me curious about those who claim to be atheists.
I read the description of Holy Blasphemy Press, and find that I agree with much of what they said. I, too, want a better God than the "tyrannical and violent" one often portrayed. I agree with their statement, "...we also respect each individual's right to seek their own spiritual meaning - as long as they don't impose it on everyone else or demand special privileges or policies." I checked out the author, Derek Murphy, too. He seems to be an open, philosophical individual with whom one might have a rational, intelligent spiritual conversation. With that understanding, I could continue my review.
The research in this book is very impressive. Murphy covers so much material. He spends more time promoting the facts of Jesus as a literary figure than discussing Harry Potter, but he clearly makes his point of the similarities of the two figures. Both Jesus Christ and Harry Potter had miraculous births, childhood miracles, and miraculous powers; battled with evil; were sacrificed in death with a rebirth or resurrection; and dealt with the symbolism of seven, Jesus in the Seven Seals of the Book of Revelation and Harry with his seven magical tasks in Books 6 and 7.
Why the comparison to Harry Potter? Many other literary figures, such as Moby Dick, Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, also endured suffering ending in a sacrificial death with a perceived rebirth and resurrection. I like Murphy's choice, however, since Harry Potter, has become popular with a major influence on our youth. Murphy's premise presents a new twist on an old story. J.K. Rowling used the same myths that preceded Jesus in creating her characters. A fresh look at the story of Jesus Christ is timely. A comparison to Mr. Potter is a unique way to do that. Murphy's implied sense of humor and perspective add to a much-needed discussion that often becomes too austere and heavy.
He establishes that there is no historical proof that Jesus Christ existed. He acknowledges that there is no proof that Jesus Christ didn't exist. Individuals are left to believe or not. Murphy states that he just wants to establish some historical record. The main stories of the Old and New Testament are restated pagan myths, referring to such figures as Osiris, Gilgamesh, Orpheus, Mithras and many others, some of which existed over a thousand years before Christ. The birth date, the death time, the suffering and the resurrection are not unique to Jesus.
I read much of this research years ago and came to the conclusion that Jesus may have lived, although that evidence is sketchy, but that he was not a divine being born on December 25 and resurrected on the date we celebrate as Easter. I am amazed at the amount of historical facts gathered by Murphy and reminded that so little of this information is widely known today. How could people ignore all of this evidence? And the myth continues with such a blind side to the facts. I like Murphy's response that all he is doing is presenting the information; it is up to the readers to make a decision. I agree.
I especially enjoyed his section on the history of Christianity with the political overtones of its rise to prominence. This is reminiscent of choices in our world today that are political rather than the right thing to do or an intelligent decision, although sometimes they are all three. In 325 CE, Emperor Constantine took power in the Roman Empire. He protected Christianity and wanted unity in the religions. He tailored Christianity to the pre-existing pagan customs. By 380 CE, Christianity was made the official religion and by 435 pagan temples were destroyed. The rise of Christianity was a political, not a religious or spiritual, decision. That part of history needs to be remembered, along with many other facts.
Jesus Potter Harry Christ OverviewJesus Potter Harry Christ uses the similarities between Jesus and Harry to re-open the debate over the historical Jesus, arguing that both Harry and Jesus are spiritual metaphors told in the literary form of historical fiction. With hundreds of footnotes and references from both ancient mythology and modern culture, Jesus Potter Harry Christ is a fresh and arresting account of Christian history that is not predicated on the flesh and bones of a historical founder. From ancient mystery religions to modern fairy tales, from fictional Hogwarts to the ruins of Jerusalem, Derek Murphy, PhD in Comparative Literature at one of the world's top universities, zooms in on one crucial question: How do we separate the obviously mythical literature of Jesus Christ from the historical man himself?

Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Muggles To Magic ReviewI was disappointed with this book. There are a few recipes that look good, like butterscotch bars, butterbeer cupcakes, and pumpkin bread. But, there are a lot of silly recipes like ants on a log (celery with peanut butter and raisins), chocolate bananas (bananas drizzled with chocolate and topped with different candies), and licorice wands (licorice dipped in chocolate and cookie crumbs). A lot of the recipes aren't even harry potter related as far as i know. You could probably just google some of these recipes and other items from harry potter (like butterbeer) and get a good recipe without spending any money.Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Muggles To Magic OverviewSmuggle in some muggle magic with The Unofficial Harry Potter Muggles To Magic Cookbook. The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Rock Cakes To Butterbeer, All Things Sugary and Sweet ReviewI'm not the biggest Harry Potter fan out there, but I do love baking and thought this ebook would make some fun and interesting things for the Christmas holidays. Boy was I wrong. Firstly there was no recipe for Cauldron cakes like it states and most of the recipes seems a bit unimaginative and would be found in other recipe books. The structure was a bit annoying with some recipes introduced with a small reference to the movie's and a couple of pictures, then others were simply just the recipe.
All in all I'd wish that the sample ebook had given me an idea of what this was going to be like and I would have spent the extra money and time to get a different one.The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Rock Cakes To Butterbeer, All Things Sugary and Sweet OverviewConjure up your own magic with The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Rock Cakes To Butterbeer. The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Cauldron Cakes To Butterbeer ReviewI purchased this cookbook as well as the other unofficial Harry Potter cookbook (( by a different author)). The $14 isn't worth the price unless you are a Harry Potter fan and just have to have all things with the name Harry Potter on it. Comparing the two books this book has approx. 42 pages of recipes ((the other unofficial book by the another author has 230 pages ))and considering many recipes found in this book are in the other book it just isn't worth the money. The other cookbook is around $11 and has more recipes. There are a few pictures in this book that give an idea how the end result should look but even still, not all recipes have the photos. I appreciate honest reviews and I hesitate to say this, but I'm pretty sure I could have done a better job putting together this cookbook with just my personal computer and printer. The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Cauldron Cakes To Butterbeer OverviewSmuggle in some muggle magic with The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Cauldron Cakes to Butterbeer.Nestled inside The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Cauldron Cakes To Butterbeer, you will find all things sugary to satisfy your sweet tooth, including Butterbeer Cupcakes, Ron's Love Spell Sugar Cookies, Rock Cakes, Treacle Crisp, Pumpkin Fudge, Yorkshire Pudding, Cauldron Cakes, King's Cross Butterscotch Bars, Harry's Tea and Get Out Of a Jam Cookies, Cockroach Clusters, and much more.

The Unofficial Harry Potter Sweet Shoppe Kit: From Peppermint Humbugs to Sugar Mice - Conjure Up Your Own Magical Confections ReviewThis product came in handy for a Harry Potter party that I threw celebrating the last release of the Harry Potter movies (DH part 2) It came with a small paperback cookbook that had new recipes for sweet Harry Potter treat. It also came with some molds and other small items to help decorate what you made. In the recipe book there was some repeated recipes from the first cookbook that the author came out with. However I thought that it gave me great new recipes and expanded my Harry Potter knowledge in the food area. So I recommend it highly to those nerds out there that are sick of Muggle food and want to try something a bit more magical. The Unofficial Harry Potter Sweet Shoppe Kit: From Peppermint Humbugs to Sugar Mice - Conjure Up Your Own Magical Confections Overview

Ultimate Unauthorized Harry Potter Quiz Book: 165 Questions Ranging from The Sorcerer's Stone to The Deathly Hallows ReviewI was really excited to go through this book and test my Harry Potter knowledge but it is a big disappointment. Of the 165 questions, numbers 1-53 are about the meaning of terms used in the books, like alchemy, and some creatures, like banshee. At that point it only moves on to asking questions about the origin of some of the words and then goes into the origins of character names (through question 66). For the following few questions it asks about different British dialects. Next it describes how to answer the essay posed in Azkaban " Witch Burning in the Fourteenth Century was Completely Pointless. Discuss." After that comes a section with trivia questions about J.K. Rowling, with several questions about her name, what her net-worth was circa 2007 and creepily intrusive things like the name and nationality of her first husband and what animal she is allergic to. Starting around the 100 questions there are some really easy questions about the movies (who plays Harry? who plays Ron?), some really obscure (box office take of the first 5 films), questions about shooting locations and now out of date questions about where the theme park "will be." Starting around question 125 the questions get into things that J.K. Rowling has said in interviews such as inspirations for character names. The next to last section is issues, such as how different churches feel about the books. Lastly is "lessons" to take from the book, basically asking about the moral implications of the book.
Overall, this is not a quiz book so much as it's a trivia book (and yes, there is a difference). There is not a single ounce of plot line trivia in this book. If you're looking for a true quiz book, try The Book of Harry Potter Trifles, Trivias, and Particularities.Ultimate Unauthorized Harry Potter Quiz Book: 165 Questions Ranging from The Sorcerer's Stone to The Deathly Hallows OverviewThis is a Harry Potter quiz book like no other. It won't be asking you questions like "what school did Harry Potter go to?" (If you are a Harry Potter fan, then of course you know the answer!) Rather it asks questions which will develop your literary appreciation of the Harry Potter books and your general knowledge of the Harry Potter phenomenon. Some of these questions are easy, quite a few are fiendishly difficult, and several of them really don't have simple answers, but thinking about possible answers is what it is all about. No book achieves anything approaching the success of the Harry Potter series unless it includes something that makes us all think. This Harry Potter Quiz Book aims to draw your attention to some of these big questions. Knowing the name of Harry Potter's school is not likely to change the life of any one of us, but thinking about the moral issues raised in the books might do just that.
